New Beginnings.. Abraham
We all sing the song: “Abraham’s blessings are mine…” in Church. Yet, how many of us can go through the same period of intense testing that Abraham went through?
Abraham was 75years old when God first promised him a son. At 75, he was an old man, and his wife was officially barren. If he had a child then, it would already have been a massive miracle. But Isaac wasn’t born until Abraham was 100 years old! 25 years later!!! 25 years Abraham waited… 25 years,, Abraham trusted… 25 years, Abraham kept the faith… And then Isaac was born!
And then the ultimate test… “Take your son, your only son Isaac whom you love, and offer him as a sacrifice…” Abraham didn’t complain, gripe, or bemoan his fate! Abraham didn’t curse God or his wife or himself… He obeyed!
When Abraham took some wood and servants and Isaac and set off to the mountain, got there, left the servants and walked on to the place God had told him, set up camp, prepared the altar, bound Isaac and placed him on the altar, picked up the knife and lifted his hand… The Lord knew Abraham was something special! You see, God knew He could trust Abraham. Abraham had proven himself to God and the Lord blessed him in such a manner that we now sing “Abraham’s blessings are mine…”
You may be in your season of waiting.. Marriage, fruit of the womb, financial breakthrough, a new job, healing… This is not the time to complain and lament your “fate”. Ask God to show you what He wants from you! Use this time to prove to God that you can be faithful even in your period of waiting!
You want to be married? How much of a wife are you? Can you cook? Clean? Keep a home? You want a child? How generous are you? How willing are you to sacrifice for another? In your current circumstances, whatever they are, work for God and for good. He who is faithful in little things, will be put in charge over greater things…
And after all is said and done, your New Beginning shall be confirmed and truly Abraham’s blessings will be yours!
