New Beginnings... Joseph
Sometimes, the Lord takes certain people on an extraordinary journey because He’s got an extraordinary purpose in mind for that person…. Let’s take a quick look at Joseph (Genesis 37 – 50)!
Joseph was a 17 year old boy who was the apple of his father’s eye. His dad made him a long robe with sleeves. Due to this, his brothers hated him and couldn’t live at peace with him. To make matters worse, he was a dreamer and he shared these dreams with his brothers which made them hate him even more and they were jealous of him.
Ladies, be careful who you share your dreams and your visions with. Not everyone that is around you will be able to understand God’s purpose for your life.
Please read Joseph’s story in full, I just want to point out, in brief, his journey.
His brothers sought to kill him but instead sold him into slavery. He was then sold again in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh. The favour of the Lord was with Joseph and he prospered and the blessing of the Lord was on the house of the Egyptian for Joseph’s sake. All was “well” until Potiphar’s wife took a liking to Joseph and wanted to have an affair with him. Joseph remained steadfast and refused to do so, until one day, in trying to resist her, he literally had to “flee” leaving his garment in her hands. (See the extent people go to avoid temptation and sin… And you? When was the last time you were courageous enough to flee from what will make you sin?) Joseph was thrown into prison and even in prison, he prospered. While in prison, he interpreted the Chief Butler and the Chief Baker’s dreams and begged them to remember him but they didn’t. A further TWO years after was when Pharoah had his dream and Joseph was called to interpret it. That was the start of Joseph’s New Beginning!
Because Joseph proved himself faithful in everything he did, he was ready when the time came to step into his New Beginning – he did everything well. He worked prudently. He was just and honest. He refused to sin against God. Even in the pit and in prison, the Bible doesn’t record Joseph ever questioning God or bemoaning his fate. Joseph understood the principles involved in waiting. He understood that his trials were for a season and he understood that after the period of waiting comes the season of celebration!
God bless you!
